Using the annual report for Benetton Group for 2010 and 2011 and other sources, you need to do the following:
1. Review the company’s financial statements in detail. Describe the significant changes on its financial statements from year-to year?
2. Has the company made any changes in its accounting policies in the last year?
3. Describe the capital structure of the company.
4. For US companies, from the Management’s Discussion and Analysis presented in its 10-K summarize the factors explaining for the change in sales (revenue) from year to year; for international companies look for a similar general level discussion by the chief executive, president etc. of the company’s sales for most recent period(s).
5. Review the notes to the financial statements, particularly the one that is a summary of its accounting policies.
6. Find at least one news article that talks about the release of your selected company’s annual report.
7. Final at least one significant business or financial event for the company that has occurred since its last yearend.
8. Calculate various financial ratios and analysis [horizontal, vertical, liquidity, profitability, rates of return, etc.]. These ratios are covered in detail in Chapter 17 but some are also presented at the end of each chapter. To calculate some of the ratios, you will need certain balances from the company’s prior annual report.
9. Describe the company’s dividend policy.
10. Summarize your review and analysis of the company’s financial statements and other findings into a 3-4 page paper. Your paper should make a recommendation as to whether one should invest in this company or not as supported by the financial results.
