Cease the Homework Nag:

Mentioned below are some quick and easy tips on how to make your children do their homework independently and give you peace of mind:

Tip 1 : Keep the study desk organized:
In the beginning of the year we start with a lot of supplies and as days go on students are held up with busy schedules and the study desk gets filled with junk. Get the desk cleaned up and make sure that papers, pencils, pens and erasers are readily available. Easy access to stationery helps in doing the work faster.

Tip 2 : Use colorful pictures on the homework schedule:
Use colorful pictures to prompt children about their homework schedule. You can click pictures of their books on that subject, prepare small and colorful charts with some detail regarding the assignment and put it on their table in order to remind them complete the assignment. Most of the students grasp information easily when it is visually placed before them. This saves your voice and prevents them from being nagged.

Tip 3: Allow your child to make an attempt:
When children come across work which they are not sure of, they immediately ask for help. Don’t jump to their desk to help them. Instead you can prompt your child to try and attempt to solve the problem before they seek out for your help. Ask them to try and work through the homework and once they finish you can help them with the questions they got stuck on. This gives your child courage to face problems independently.

Tip 4: Offer exciting motivators :
Children get motivated when you offer exciting motivators like a bonus play date, extra outdoor play time or a gift for your child. Its been a long day at school and your child would be exhausted as he returns home. Maintain your child’s energy by offering exciting and new reinforcements if they complete their assignments. If the homework is scheduled before an exciting event like a trip to the park or a base ball game, it will help pick up your child’s pace while doing homework.

Whatever it takes, don’t nag! Be positive and stay organized.
